Faith Promise for Missions
It is not a special offering—we will not receive a missions offering on the 12th.
It is not a pledge—you don’t turn in your name; no reminders or statements are ever sent.
It is not an appeal for sacrificial giving—though this may be included if you so choose. |
So what is a faith promise? It is a commitment to missions for the coming year for a specific amount you believe God would like to channel through you. It is not dependent upon how much or little you make or how much you can “squeeze” out of your family budget. The “faith” part is that we look to the Lord to provide the resources to give the amount God has laid on our hearts. A faith promise is essentially a statement of faith: how much do I believe God will provide that I can give back to him for his work in missions.
Then we pray regularly for God to provide it. And here’s the easy part: you don’t have to give it if God doesn’t provide it! But you may be amazed at the unexpected ways he will provide what you trust him for in faith! God may provide it in one or more ways:
Through unexpected income—a bonus, a gift, a refund, an inheritance, etc.
Through our creativity—discovering a way to acquire some extra money for missions (making and selling something, for example).
Through good management—using our income more wisely so we are able to give extra.
Through sacrifice—doing without something so the gospel may go forth. |
If you choose, you may designate how much of your faith promise will be used to support either of our missionaries: Jennifer Thomas (Mexico) or Bob & Carol Krouse (Nigeria). Or you may make your faith promise without designation (the Mission & Outreach Commission has decided that undesignated faith promise will go 60% to Jen Thomas and 40% to the Krouses).
Between now and the 12th, be praying about what God wants to do through you. Don’t think so much about what you can do—think about what you can trust God to do! Then come September 12 ready to make your faith promise to the Lord.
