Hammond Avenue is serving as the collection center for Northeast Iowa for
Operation Christmas Child. We will accept boxes from churches and
individuals throughout the Cedar Valley, as well as from relay centers around
the area.
Carolyn Waters serves as our coordinator and will be assisted by many volunteers
from our church and other congregations.
Our collection center at the church will be open these days and hours:
Monday-Friday, November 12-16 - 11:00 am-1:00 pm & 4:00-7:00
pm
Saturday, November 17 - 9:00 am-12:00 noon
Sunday, November 18 - 2:00-5:00 pm
Monday, November 19 - 9:00 am-5:00 pm
If you have more than 50 boxes to bring, please call in advance to Carolyn
Waters (319-234-6910) or the church (319-234-4094) or toll-free at
1-800-419-8815. Or call if you need to make an appointment for drop-off of
boxes at another time.
Here are some pictures from last year.

Donors young and old brought shoeboxes.

Volunteers made sure each box was properly labeled and banded - (from
left) Gail Hadley (kneeling), Bert Meyers, Zona Richards, Barb Van Dyke, Roy
Meyers, and Terry Samuelson.

Boxes were then placed in shipping cartons - usually 10-16 per carton.

Ron L. Waters taped a lot of cartons!

All lined up and ready to go - we packed 105 shipping cartons, plus 8
other cardboard boxes after we ran out of the official shipping cartons.
The total number of shoeboxes collected in our relay center was 1,484.

Some carton were loaded by hand truck (Murry Van Dyke with the cart) . . .

Others got carried on by hand (Terry Samuelson with the box).

The truck generously loaned by Meyers Nursery was nearly full - front to
back and bottom to top - when it left for Independence on Sunday afternoon.
We have a team going to Eden Prairie, Minnesota (near Minneapolis), on December
2-3, 2007, to work in the regional warehouse. We will have worked with
the project from local shoebox packing to regional processing. Maybe in
the future, someone will be able to go overseas to help hand out boxes!
